About Metropolis, IL - Happy to be your hometown Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor!
Metropolis is a city located along the Ohio River in southern Illinois. It is positioned in Massac County and serves as the seat of government. Metropolis is the largest city in Massac County. According to the United States Census Bureau, there were about 6,200 people living in Metropolis in 2016.
Metropolis is located in an area that was originally inhabited by Native American Indians most likely of the Chickasaw tribe. In 1757, Massac County began documenting its history after the French erected Fort De L'Ascension during the French and Indian War. Soon after its construction, the fort was rebuilt and named Massaic which later transformed into Massac. In 1794, General George Washington ordered the fort be reconstructed again. The fort served as a military post for many years and was abandoned in 1814. The timbers of the fort were scavenged by local settlers and in 1839 the town of Metropolis was platted about a mile west of the original fort grounds.
Today, Metropolis is a modernized city that is home to a downtown area, beautiful neighborhoods, and many attractions. The city is located along the banks of the Ohio River which provides residents easy access to Kentucky. Individuals are also afforded easy access to many outdoor recreation opportunities because of the community’s close proximity to Highway 24. In Metropolis, there is something for individuals of all tastes and preferences.
Residents of Metropolis find it necessary to have easy access to heating and cooling systems. The city is located in a climate that experiences four distinct seasons. Throughout the winter seasons, daytime temperature highs range from the mid-40s to low-50s. At night, temperatures will dip below freezing. These weather conditions make it necessary for resident to have heating systems installed in their homes. It is also necessary for residents to have cooling systems installed in their residences because of the weather patterns throughout the summer seasons.
